Our journey began in 2016 when the late Oussama Zarour and his wife Loren reached out to Abouna Ibrahim El Haddad, who interceded with his excellency Bishop Ibrahim Ibrahim. Our first liturgical celebration was on January 14th, 2017 and our little parish grew with love, dedication and hard work. No matter the weather or distance, Abouna Ibrahim El Haddad, Abouna Youhanna Hanna, Monseigneur Makarios Wehbe and Abouna Fadi Rizk made it their mission to celebrate the word of God with our parishioners and their families. We are truly blessed!
God’s guidance led us to form the parish committee (the late Oussama Zarour, Loren Zarour, Edith Zoghaib, Ibtisam Bannoura, Amer Filo, Abir Filo-Shweihat, Ramez and Mirvat Zarour, Waleed and Rola Shewayhat, Najib and Nicole Khalaf, Bassam and Heba Endraous, Mania Safania, Raouha Filo, Salwa Azzam and Nader Haddad) who walked hand-in-hand since day one along with the faithful families that joined our church. In 2018, we were granted the title “St. Elias Greek Melkite Catholic Church Mission Hamilton”. Our successful initiatives were the results of great collaboration from all, both young and old, our holy fathers and His divine intervention. His Excellency Archbishop Ibrahim Ibrahim dedicated our church to be “Our Lady of the Assumption Melkite Catholic Church” on August 28th, 2021 in a very special and meaningful mass.
